Skin-friendly fabrics

Fabrics are the most important part of the clothes we wear . Since ancient times, our ancestors have used all sorts of elements of plant and animal origin to cover their bodies and thus protect themselves from atmospheric agents. Over time we have learned to transform these materials by weaving them into fabric, just as blades of grass were woven in the past. As the centuries passed, society began to look for new fibers that could be used to produce yarn. The result is represented by fabrics such as cotton, wool, silk and linen, just to name a few classics. Today, if a designer wants to create an exceptional garment, he begins the process by selecting the finest fabric also thanks to improved technology in the textile industry which has led to the production of a wide variety of materials. And this is precisely the work we have also done at CasaGIN : we have engaged in an evolutionary process identifying and selecting materials that could make a difference . And we arrived at Tencel Modal , Tencel Lyocell and GOTS certified organic cotton . We are in fact convinced that what we put on our bodies is important, especially when it comes to our skin.

However, nowadays, the healthy aspect of the clothes we wear is too often underestimated, to the detriment of savings and design . It is therefore important to increase awareness and therefore educate about consumption. Our project also aims at this. But how can a garment be healthy and skin-friendly? What are the main characteristics it must possess? While there are no official criteria, there are some key traits related to fibers and fabrics that are considered “skin friendly.” What makes them attractive to people with sensitive skin is breathability, the ability to regulate temperature, and properties such as the ability to wick moisture . These are exactly the characteristics that distinguish the materials with which our garments are produced. But they are not the only ones.

Hypoallergenic : the fabrics that are delicate on the skin are hypoallergenic, that is, made with fibers of natural origin and suitable for all those people who suffer from allergic dermatitis but also for healthy people who want to do prevention. These natural fibers are more resistant to allergy triggers such as dust and sweat (which attracts bacteria).

Natural : Naturally sourced fabrics obviously come from organic sources and tend to be healthier than synthetic fabrics. They can be divided into two groups, namely natural fabrics obtained from vegetable plants such as Tencel and cotton or those obtained from animals such as wool, alpaca, silk and cashmere. These are extremely breathable and soft woven fibres, usually extracted without the use of toxins or chemical processes harmful to the environment and the person, very light, but at the same time capable of providing warmth and protection to the body.

Absence of harmful chemicals : Perhaps not everyone is aware of this, but the majority of clothes on sale today (especially fast fashion) are loaded with toxic chemicals. These chemicals come from low-quality dyes, treatments and coatings. Container transport also causes many garments to absorb toxic substances. These are chemicals that can cause serious health problems. If we care about our well-being it is therefore essential to ensure that the production and origin of the fabrics are certified.

Antibacterial : Antibacterial fabrics, also called antimicrobial, have many attractive features but in particular they help to fight odor-causing bacteria, meaning they stay cleaner for longer and help prevent illness. Even better if they are bacteriostatic fabrics: in these cases the bacteria are not killed through the application of substances and additives, but kept at a natural level, preventing their proliferation.

This is therefore the reason that led us to select Tencel Modal, Tencel Lyocell and GOTS certified organic cotton . Damage caused by chemicals used to make modern clothing is increasingly a big concern to keep in mind when we enter the store. However, we can choose clothing made with safe treatments and certified dyes. This is our mission and what moves us every day to create better products that are attentive to the environment and people. Wearing a CasaGIN garment means paying attention to the quality of the fabrics, contributing to protecting the environment and choosing versatility . We have chosen to embrace ecology and eco-sustainability, committing ourselves to conserving and defending nature, eliminating anything that can disturb the balance of the natural environment and following a technological and industrial development strategy that takes into account, in the exploitation of resources and production techniques, conditions and environmental compatibility, all while avoiding the use of chemical pesticides and substances harmful to humans and the environment.
