The evolution of swimwear at CasaGIN

If there is a garment that has evolved more than any other over time, this is definitely the swimsuit. Cultural, social and political emblem, the history of modern swimwear has its roots in ancient Rome. The most famous proof is in fact a mosaic, preserved at Villa Romana del Casale in Sicily, in which girls pose, in what looks like a modern bikini. But there is also a two-piece statue of Venus that tells of a past in which women wore a band to cover the breasts and a rather shabby brief to play sports and dive into the water. For all antiquity, the practice of diving into the sea is not widespread; instead, baths at the spa are more frequent, but without the use of special clothing. The first bathing suit dates back to the 1400s, featuring a bodice with shoulder straps and a skirt. Not much will change until the early 1900s, when the fashion of swimming spreads, both in lakes and rivers, and at the sea, with the appearance of the first bathing establishments. Thus, begins an evolution that will significantly mark the transformation of thought and the progressive liberalization of customs and social habits, leading to the birth of the bikini, in 1946. The constraints related to fashion begin to melt to make way for more creative and succinct swimwear: a revival of styles, one-piece swimsuits, padded bras, briefs tied on the sides, embroidery, beads, but, above all, always new fabrics.

A parade of models renewing every year with the arrival of summer: filling with new meanings. Today, wearing a swimsuit means first of all feeling good, being free, exploring and discovering how to relate with our body and our image. And this is exactly what we try to do at CasaGIN: for us, the swimsuit must become a revolutionary tool for a necessary change. This is why our clothing is designed to be inclusive and positive, suitable for women of all shapes, colors and sizes. We have combined tradition and innovation to create a new concept of beauty, intended not only in an aesthetic but also ethical sense. A tradition represented by our love for the made in Italy, but also by a design that is a delicate set of points and shapes. Innovation because, in addition to focusing on working with small artisan businesses, we have chosen a sustainable path, looking for fine fabrics and materials, produced in an ecological way, so as to safeguard the environment and natural balance. This is how the new collection of CasaGIN swimwear was born: different shapes and colors woven into a textile fiber, the Econyl, which can be regenerated, recreated and remodeled indefinitely, reducing its impact on global warming potential by 80%.

But how does each of our swimsuits come to life? The first step is to buy the thread from a company based in Trentino Alto Adige, leader in Italy and worldwide in the recycling of materials destined for disposal: fishing nets abandoned in the seas and textile production waste are recovered and transformed into a new thread, with the same characteristics of nylon from virgin raw material. The thread is then worked by a company based in Lombardy, a symbol of Italian textile excellence in the world of swimwear, which has been involved in the production of warp and circular knitted fabrics for over fifty years. Finally, the resulting fabric is sent to a local Venetian reality for the garment packaging, which takes place through a very careful and meticulous manual work. All this, combined with the design phase, gives rise to our swimwear characterized by a perfect fit and breathability, soft and elastic. Able to protect against UVA rays, creams, sun oils and chlorine.

Classic models with a linear, clean and essential design, created to enhance any shape. Timeless products to wear today and tomorrow. Like the American bra and the high-waisted briefs, designed also for curvy and shapely women, ideal for softening the shapes and perfect for those looking for an always new style, thanks to the possibility of inverting the colors. Or the bandeau and triangle bra, both adjustable, developed with removable cups and contrasting inner lining, in lighter fabric, to give the garment greater breathability. Moving on to the classic model briefs with or without bow in the stalked and low-waisted versions, the first suitable for sport, the second ideal for a little relaxation under the sun. And to finish our two-piece swimsuits in two versions, the first with crossed laces in the back for greater freedom of movement and the second with band for a more refined and elegant image. All created with skill and practically imperceptible seams.

The emancipation of swimwear has always been linked to the emancipation of women: a social leap that has involved and still continues to affect the body’s conscience and moral and social concerns. That’s why we dedicate this new collection to all our women in the hope that our style will inspire those who want to feel more free, confident and obviously more sustainable.
